The first Wellsynergy Wellbeing and Outdoor Activity Festival will be held in the heart of Brecon Beacons / Bannau Brecheiniog this September.  It’s the vision being brought to life by outdoor enthusiasts Janine Price and Chris Thomas from The Walking The Brecon Beacons team - with the full support of the site owners Keri and Julie Davies and family.

Held over two days it’s a unique opportunity for families and friends to immerse themselves in nature amidst the outstanding natural beauty of the Geo Park and to enjoy a combination of adventure, wellbeing and relaxation activities suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

Activities include expert-led guided nature walks and hiking through breath-taking scenery, sunrise yoga, a climbing wall, outdoor cinema under star spangled skies, fun filled fitness sessions as well a host of children’s outdoor activities such as bug hunts, outdoor play, and arts and crafts that children love. For those who simply want to soak up the natural beauty of the area and the joy of being outdoors they can enjoy a range of delicious catered food and drink options or simply bring their own.

Organiser Janine Price said, “There really will be something for everyone and we have deliberately kept ticket prices affordable as we would love to see lots of families share the weekend. We have been overwhelmed by the show of support so far; the event is already fostering a real sense of community from those who will be on hand to share their expertise alongside the amazing local businesses offering delicious food as well as original craft stalls, and not least our mountain rescue heroes who will be there too. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together, share an uplifting weekend and create some memories as we head into autumn.”

Chris Thomas of ROC Outdoor Adventure and joint founder of the festival added, "Anything that's gets people embracing and enjoying the outdoors in any capacity is a great thing. We have such an outstanding natural resource on our doorstep and this festival is an amazing opportunity, not only for community building but to also to encourage exploring the benefits of outdoor activity and all nature has to offer including wellness practices, walking and even relaxation techniques. It’s a deliberately inclusive event designed for all ages and with family budgets very much mind. We really are aiming for there to be something for everyone.

A range of affordable accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets is available ranging from luxury onsite and local accommodation, to a range of on-site camping options including camper vans allowing ground campfires and BBQs and welcoming well-behaved dogs on leads.

We were delighted when we received these images and a blog post from Beacons artist Alasdair McDougal.  You can see more of his work at https://www.beaconsart.com/?

The Brecon Beacons is a line of hills that run east-west, formed over geological time through massive tectonic pressures pushing what were flat seabeds up into these great hills, which have been shaped and gouged by glaciers kilometres thick and the floodwaters that followed. This makes the dramatic background where the sunlight casts ever-changing shadows - light and dark sweep across the broad horizons.

Painting all this is great - there are different views wherever you look, but the subject never stands still!.!

Painting on canvas has its challenges when the wind blows!  It's like a sail. I have had to tie it down with rocks to stop it from flying away. But on this occasion, the sky got darker and darker then there was the dreaded 'rumble of thunder' (that phrase so loved by the weather forecasters) - my easel is metal, the rain made everything wet, not good to be there in lightning, I came down a lot faster than I went up.

Over the years I have searched for the best views. I don't think you can beat looking across the central Beacons from Fan y Big, which is one I have painted in the early morning, in the evening, and all through the day in winter, summer, spring and autumn - it is the basis of the Group logo I drew some years ago..

But some of the best views are OF the hills rather then from them - looking north from Pontsiscilli (which I can never spell), or south from the trig point at Pen y Crug outside Brecon.

Good luck with the website.

It’s here!  Walking the Brecon Beacons has a new website, packed full of useful information about walking, safety, Mountain Rescue, places to stay, places to eat, WTBB events and our shop. You can sign up for our newsletter too, all on the website.

First things first, our web address is walkingthebreconbeacons.wales.  You will find this on our Facebook page and our Instagram page.  We will advertise the site regularly to our nearly 40,000 followers.  The website will be the only place where we will allow business advertising from now on

If you are on a destop or laptop, you will find the page navigation menu at the top.  Click on any of these words to go to a different page.

If you are on a mobile device, the menu will drop down if you press the three bars at the top.

Click the WTBB logo on any device to return to the home page.

If you want to advertise accommodation, places to eat or things to do click the ‘advertise with us’ button below the main title and you will be taken through the signup process.  Once you have created your listing, you can edit it on the green ‘Log in’ button on the top right.  Any questions, please contact our partners, As You See It Media, by email on WTBB@asyouseeitmedia.uk.

Suggestions for walks in the Brecon Beacons can be found on the ‘Where to Walk’ page, with ideas taken from the walks completed using the outdooractive map.  We want to develop this page further so if you have recorded favourite routes, please send them to us at walkingthebreconbeacons@gmail.com

Below the suggested walks are some really unique guides from Kevin Walker.  He charges £2.50 to download with a donation going to WTBB.

On the Walking Safety Page, you will find information about the Mountain Rescue Teams we support and safety videos.

Visit our WTBB shop for unique, branded items to shout out your membership wherever you may travel and WTBB events for booking activities we are running.

The Walking the Brecon Beacons Website has been created in collaboration with As You See It Media Ltd, based in Crickhowell.  They have born all the up-front costs.  For this, and ongoing help and support, taking enormous pressure off the WTBB admins, they will take a modest share of the advertising revenue from the stay, eat and visit pages.  All the remaining profits will go towards development of the WTBB group and supporting local mountain rescue teams.

Most photos on this site have been provided by WTBB Member Neil Holman, As You See It Media, PRW Photography and Visit Wales. This is your site, so we would welcome contributions of pictures, walks and articles.  And please, be proud of it and share it far and wide.

Let’s see how far we can travel

Walking the Brecon Beacons (WTBB) is delighted to announce that it is developing a new website in collaboration with local digital media firm As You See It Media, to offer the best places to stay, visit, eat and drink to its 30,000+ members.

WTBB grew from common interest in exploring the outdoors and a Facebook group where people freely shared ideas, favourite walks, and visitor attractions. Founded by former miner Dai Powell. The group actively supports the four Mountain Rescue Teams serving the National Park by raising awareness and fundraising, and the new website will help increase its charitable earnings potential.

Janine Price, a WTBB Director said: “The group has been a phenomenal success even though it has until now been run by volunteers. We reached the point where I needed some professional help with our classified advertising, online booking for walks and other events, and to set up an online shop. The ethos of the group will stay the same and the main beneficiaries will remain our members and the Mountain Rescue teams who help keep us safe. We are delighted to have formed a partnership with As You See It Media, who are local photographers, videographers and copywriters and are passionate about Bannau Brycheiniog. Having the professional support of As You See Media Ltd will allow me to focus on Group development and driving the group forward.

It’s perfect timing as we have recently shared that I have been working on a four-day well-being festival that will take place within the Brecon Beacons National Park in September with Chris Thomas of ROC Outdoor Adventure on the site of Onnen Fawr Leisure part of the Dark Sky Escapes Group of properties. It will take place on 19th - 22nd September 2024, with the support of Keri, Julie, Heidi May & Naomi Davies. We are really excited for our members”

The website will sell WTBB’s range of branded tops, badges, and other merchandise as well as displaying classified ads for hotels, B+Bs and other places to stay and visit.

As You See It Media Creative Director, Tim Jones said: “We are really excited to be joining WTBB to promote the hundreds of great businesses in the National Park to its enthusiastic following. We will lift a load from the volunteers’ and Janine’s shoulders to help the group to continue to grow while protecting its ethos as a volunteer-led organisation funding safe and enjoyable activities in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.”

The website is being constructed over the next few weeks; any businesses who want to advertise for a small monthly fee should email WTBB@asyouseeitmedia.uk
