About

Walking the Brecon Beacons was founded by Dai Powell from Aberfan and Merthyr Tydfil in the South Wales Valleys, to celebrate his love of the mountains. Janine Price joined the admin team after Covid, bringing with her a wealth of experience of running a community group for women and children. With Dai, she is now driving the development of the group. By 2024, the original idea of a friendship group bonded together by common interests for all things outdoors had grown to more than 32,000 members and WTBB was being featured on TV shows and in national newspapers. Now it is a force for good, educating visitors about mountain safety, the best walking routes, places to visit, stay and eat and raising money for mountain rescue teams.

The group and this site are now run by the people below:

Dai Powell

Dai worked as a coal miner until the mines closed in the 1990s. He now works in the outdoors at Forest Holidays at Garw Nant, which is now the official base for Walking the Brecon Beacons.

Carl Llewellyn

Carl is a keen and experienced hill walker and has been a member of Walking the Brecon Beacons since the beginning. He is a director of WTBB and is well known to thousands of WTBB members.

Janine Price

Janine is a living demonstration of the power of walking and the mental health benefits of spending time outdoors. Having battled with a chronic skin condition and autoimmune disease for over 18 years that prevented her from undertaking any form of exercise she started to explore holistic approaches taking charge of her recovery. As her symptoms gradually abated she was able to start to exercise and incorporate walks in the Brecon Beacons into her daily life. Her first hand experience of the healing benefits of walking and being outside led her to starting an after school walking club for mums and their children, as well as offering support helping build confidence in those who were embarking on a return to fitness or starting to exercise for the first time. Today Janine is testament to what is possible and her activities outside her passionate support of the Brecon Beacons team include paddle boarding and wellness coaching, as well as being a busy mum to two almost grown children.

Chris Thomas

Over the past 20 years Chris has enjoyed the rugged beauty of the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia. Motivated by his desire to share the breathtaking beauty of the area today he is the owner of ROC Outdoor Adventure which creates memorable, personalised walking and climbing experiences for all ages and abilities. In addition to his extensive experience and knowledge of the area, and his ability to guide people to the most spectacular views, he is a Mountain Training Association qualified Mountain Leader and is also trained in Mountain Rescue. He has summited some of the world’s highest peaks. A family man Chris is also dad to two teenage children who not surprisingly were climbing from a young age.

Diane Sealey

Diane has been running her PR consultancy Fibre PR specialising in health & fitness, technology and personal development for 30 years. She is passionate about health and fitness and the ripple effect that it has in all areas of our lives. Having been raised on a farm her love of nature and green spaces is part of her DNA. She is a keen golfer, walker and yoga student, and completed her first fundraising parachute jump in her 60th year.

Mikey J Allen

Mikey is an Ambassador for Walking the Brecon Beacons, champion of all things mental health, Winner of Welsh Veterans Overall Champion of the Year, Winner of Welsh Veterans Inspiration of the Year. A former physical training instructor, Mikey suffered from PTSD after a tour of Afghanistan. Finding himself homeless, he is now building a castle with his bare hands - a project which has received international exposure.

Lindee Meredith

Lindee is an advocate for ‘Getting Outdoors’ for mental health & grief therapy. She loves adventure, nature, mountains & water. She is a keen amateur and supports Janine with the WTBB Instagram page.

Olivia Price

Janine’s daughter Olivia is a Digital Marketing Student, Administrator for Walking the Brecon beacons, lover of the outdoors & keen amateur photographer. She supports Dai and Janine with WTBB’s ever-growing social media presence.

Neil Holman

Neil Holman is our landscape photography expert. He says: "I’m always looking for a photograph that no one else has taken before. If I can give others some inspiration to get outdoors through my photography I’m a happy man. Safety, of course, is a must, so you have to be very careful at some of the locations I go to, so be careful out there, everyone. Extreme locations I love and extreme weather conditions. It gives my photos plenty of drama."

Ralph & Patch

Ralph, on the left. is a very accomplished Walker of the Brecon Beacons and connoisseur of dog-friendly routes and places to stay and eat. He is our main featured mascot. The junior dog, Patchm is collecting experiences on every outing.

As You See It Media

As You See It Media is based in Llangattock, just across the River Usk from the Crickhowell with its award-winning High Street. Tim, Will and Lewis love walking and photographing the Brecon Beacons. They built this site for free and look after all the advertising for a fee, because we don’t have time to do it and fit in a walk for ourselves.
